El nuevo Smart ForTwo, que ya se encuentra en su fase final de pruebas después de tres largos años, continuará siendo un coche desarrollado por y para la ciudad, si bien ya podemos confirmaros que tendrá una anchura algo mayor que el actual, manteniéndose intacta su longitud. Con este cambio se busca que el Smart ForTwo de un paso adelante en lo que a estabilidad en curvas rápidas se refiere.
El nuevo Smart ForTwo, que marcará el inicio de la tercera generación del modelo, ha sido desarrollado a la par del ForFour, así como del Renault Twingo, que también llega al mercado en 2014 y que comparte proyecto con ambos Smart. Estos tres modelos contarán con una nueva mecánica situada en la parte trasera del vehículo, disponiendo de sistema de propulsión.
El Smart ForTwo contará con un motor tricilíndrico de 1 litro que ha sido desarrollado a la par por Daimler y Renault, y que contará con una potencia de 70 CV en su versión atmosférica y de 85 CV turboalimentado. Además, existirá una versión firmada por Brabus cuya potencia se disparará hasta los 105 CV. Asociadas a este motor, podremos contar con una caja de cambios manual de seis relaciones o con una automática de doble embrague de siete.
Por primera vez, el Smart ForTwo no ofrecerá una opción diésel dentro de su gama mecánica, aunque desde Daimler han confirmado que preparan una versión eléctrica en colaboración con Tesla.
Tanto el Smart ForTwo como el FourFour prometen también un salto en lo que a calidad de materiales se refiere, disponiendo también de un equipamiento básico a la altura de lo que se espera de ellos.
En cuanto al Smart ForFour, no es otra cosa que un ForTwo alargado. Cuenta con una longitud de 3,5 metros, siendo 0,8 metros más largo que su hermano pequeño. Dispondrá de los mismos motores que el Smart ForTwo.
¿Cuándo podremos ver el aspecto definitivo de ambos modelos? El primero en llegar será el Smart ForTwo Coupé, que será presentado en junio de 2014, mientras que el ForFour hará su primera aparición pública en el Salón de París, allá por septiembre del año que viene. También tendremos una versión descapotable del ForTwo, aunque habrá que esperar hasta el Salón de Ginebra de 2015 para verla.
